JEANS AND MOVIE DAY

fLAG OF hAITI

There will be a Jeans Day on Wednesday 19th October to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Matthew in Haiti, where over a thousand people were killed and many, many more have been left homeless, without food or clean water, and exposed to an outbreak of cholera. We ask that all students and staff take part by wearing blue jeans and a red shirt, showing their awareness of the colours of the Haitian flag. Parents dropping off or picking up their children on Wednesday may also wish to participate (and contribute) by wearing the same colours. To participate in Jeans Day we ask for a MINIMUM contribution of $5 to this very worthy cause. If you wish to offer more – BRILLIANT!

That same afternoon there will be a PTA-organised screening of the latest blockbuster movie, starting at 3.40pm in Brayton Hall. Entry will  cost $5. Drinks and popcorn will be available. Funds raised from the movie show will go towards the organisation of a series of workshops for parents and teachers, to be offered soon by expert speakers.

YRS 12 & 13 PARENTS’ EVENING

The Years 12 and 13 Parents’ Evening takes place next Thursday 20thOctober), beginning at 5.00pm in Brayton Hall. Students must attend with their parents.

We have re-introduced an appointment system, based on five-minute slots, so that both parents and teachers may make more efficient use of their time. The system has been explained to students, who will have your copy of the appointment sheet. They will need to speak with each of their teachers to arrange a mutually convenient appointment time for each interview.

Should any parent need more than five minutes to discuss their child, please phone Ms Bain in the School Office to arrange an appointment during the school day.

NEW GOVERNOR

Our congratulations to Year 10 students, Tamia Robinson and Karl Shand Jr, who have been selected to represent the Collegiate at the swearing-in ceremony of the new Governor, Dr John Freeman, at the House of Assembly in Grand Turk on Monday.

FINALLY

We ask that all students are collected from school by 3.30pm, or within fifteen minutes of the finishing time of any organised activity, such as volleyball at the sports centre. This is a condition of your child being a BWIC student and we politely ask that this be respected.

The Collegiate will close as normal at 3.30pm on Friday 21st October and re-open for classes at 7.45am on Monday 31st October.
