Last year the school raised nearly $1200 for the National Cancer Society, and it would be great if this year we could raise even more.

This year’s Walkathon is on 1st October, starting at 5.45am from Graceway Gourmet to the International School and back- about 5 miles. Students and their families can register through the school. There is a special discounted rate of $10 for students enrolled at BWIC (although they can pay full price if they want!). This registration fee will include a T-shirt. Any family members wishing to register will have to pay full price for the T-shirt, which is $15. Hats are also available for $10.

Letters were distributed about the Walkathon last week. Registration forms and payment need to be returned NOW so that T-shirts/hats can be distributed by Thursday.

Visiting the Collegiate Campus during the Day

We politely ask that anyone visiting the campus during the day first report to Ms Bain in the School Office. This ensures that your visit is registered: that we know who is on campus and the reason for their visit; and so that you can be accounted for in case of an emergency.

Even if your visit is a quick one – maybe because your child has forgotten their lunch box or PE kit, your only point of call should be the School Office. Please do not take it upon yourself to go in search of your child, or any other child, as this may raise concerns.

New Picnic Tables

This weekend we had six new picnic tables constructed so that our students may be seated more comfortably during breaks. We only ask that these tables, like all Collegiate property, are well cared for so that they look good and last as long as possible.

From the PTA

The eye doctor at Menzies Clinic has agreed to extend their summer offer for BWIC school children to have their eyes checked free of charge. He has limited time slots after 3 p.m. on weekends and Saturday a.m. and parents only need to phone the clinic 946-4242 to make an appointment. Obviously, a charge will be payable should prescription glasses be needed.

Jeans Day

There will be a Jeans Day this Thursday 29th September as a Year 11 fundraiser. A donation of $2 is payable for the privilege of dressing down for the school day.

Friday Events

BWIC students have been invited to participate in two events on Friday, to coincide with the theme of the public holiday (National Youth Day).

Firstly, Outreach Turks & Caicos, a non-profit organisation that promotes education and wellness for the family will be holding a half-day workshop at Beaches entitled “Developing Young Minds – Training Future Leaders for Success”. Fifteen of our students from Year 8 to Year 11 will be selected to participate. Those that accept the invitation should meet at Beaches, in school uniform, at 12.45pm. The workshop finishes at 4.00pm.

Secondly, BWIC will be represented by a group of student musicians performing in the “Jazz in the Garden” event from 4.00pm in the National Stadium. There is a level of superstition in the entertainment industry that prevents me from wishing our musicians good luck so, as tradition dictates – break a leg!
