10th October 2017

Dear parents and students,

It has come to our attention that some parent drivers are creating disorder and danger in the school car park at drop-off and pick-up times.

Parents of students that have been with us for some time should be familiar with the rules in place for following the traffic circuit and parking. New parents to the school were issued with written instructions regarding this in their admissions pack.

STUDENT DROP-OFF/PICK UP INSTRUCTIONS
  • We ask you NOT to leave or pick up your child in the staff area of the car park.
  • Students are NOT permitted to leave or enter any vehicle that is not correctly parked.
  • Please respect the 5 mph speed limit and the crossing point: they have been put in place for everybody’s safety.
  • Finally, on this matter, there might not be a need to be in such a rush in the morning if we were to set out from home in the first place with ample time for a safe journey and a punctual arrival (i.e. before 7.50 am). Tardiness is recorded and does feature in each child’s school file.
COMMUNICATIONS, PATIENCE & UNDERSTANDING

I also need to point out that our telephone and Internet connections at school are still down and are expected to be so for some time yet. Like many BWIC families, some of our teachers are also still without water, electricity and Internet at home. We ask you to be patient and understanding when it comes to requesting work for an absent child. Under the current trying circumstances it is not possible to arrange this in advance, and might be difficult, or even impossible, for some teachers to put together on a daily basis given the reasons outlined above.

We thank you for giving your utmost attention to these matters, and look forward to an easier and safer arrival and departure from the Collegiate from this afternoon.

With best wishes,
Anthony Wilkinson,
Vice-Principal, British West Indies Collegiate
