EXAMINATIONS

Examinations for Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 began yesterday and conclude tomorrow, Wednesday. Examinations for Years 6, 7, 8 and 9 will take place from Monday 11th December to Wednesday 13th December. This is one day earlier, as announced last week. The examination schedule for these junior year groups will be distributed by the end of this week. A countdown calendar, along with time-proven revision tips, was distributed a number of weeks ago.

HOMEWORK

There has been some concern expressed about the amount of homework that some students have been receiving, and/or the time taken by them to prepare assignments at home. In response, the issue is the subject of discussion with subject teachers and the school homework policy is being reviewed and updated. A new homework timetable, enabling students to plan their assignments better, will be made available in January.

STUDENT PICK-UP

Once again, I would like to remind parents/guardians of the need to collect their children from the Collegiate as promptly as possible at the end of the day. Unless engaged in a school activity, and supervised directly by the teacher in charge of that activity, students are expected to be off campus by 3.45pm: all parents signed a written agreement to this effect when their child joined the school.

An increasing number of students are not being collected until after 5.00pm. It is not fair to require members of our teaching staff to stay beyond their contracted hours to look after these students; nor do we wish to expose any student to the unwelcome experience of being alone on Venetian Road at the end of the day. Much of the school fence dividing the Collegiate from the National Stadium was destroyed in the recent hurricanes and, until the government repairs this, there is little chance of us preventing unwanted visitors from wandering onto campus after hours. Please help us to keep our students safe by collecting them from school on time!

PHOTOGRAPHS

This week, Ms Roots began taking class photographs for the annual school pubication, “Koios”. Ms Roots will take this year’s more informal Christmas photos on Friday 1st December; for this reason, there will be no extra-curricular activities this week. Students are invited to show some Christmas spirit on the occasion of the photographs, designated a seasonal ‘Jeans Day’ ($2 donation), by dressing in house colours,or traditional red, white and green. Further information about the availability of seasonal school mementos will be given to students when the photographs are taken.

Thank you for your ongoing interest in Collegiate news, and for your kind collaboration with school events and initiatives.

With best wishes,

Anthony Wilkinson
