BWIC Students raise $1,632 at Amanyara’s ‘Exclusive Evening of Art’
28th January 2017, Amanyara Resort, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands
In support of Edward Gartland Youth Centre and British West Indies Collegiate Creative Arts Departments, BWIC Students had the opportunity to submit Art Work to be exhibited at Amanyara’s ‘Exclusive Evening of Art’.
Year 9 produced collaborative and individual Linocut Prints inspired by shells, plants and coral forms from TCI. Their experiments with composition, colour and line resulted in vibrant and original pieces, which quickly sold.
Shaqueena Gibson in Year 9, produced an expressive acrylic on canvas painting of a conch shell, using bold brush strokes and fluid lines, which was quickly bought.
Dessa Douglas in Year 11, produced a fantastic painting of Koi Carp, using combinative marbling technique and acrylic. This piece garnered so much interest that it was entered into the ’Live Auction’ along with Professional Artists’ work. It eventually sold for a staggering $1,000.
$1,632 was raised from BWIC Student Art work alone and the proceeds were equally split between Edward Gartland Youth Centre and British West Indies Collegiate Creative Arts Fund.
This is an Annual Event, which gives students the opportunity to not only exhibit at such a ‘High Profile’ exclusive venue, but to support their school as well as children in need on the Island. As Head of Art, I am immensely proud and hope that our students will continue to participate and showcase their talent.
