BWIC Student Sponsorship
Programme
A number
of the students who graduated in 2004 and in previous
years - including those who have since progressed to higher
education institutions around the world - were recipients of
scholarships provided by either businesses, charitable
foundations or generous individuals. There
exist many children in the Turks and Caicos Islands who
have the ability but not the financial means to take
advantage of the exceptional quality of education provided
by the British West Indies Collegiate. We urge any
individual or company with an interest in supporting a
child's education through the Collegiate, to contact the
Principal,
Mrs Wigglesworth, who will
be delighted to discuss further the Student Sponsorship
Programme.
Collegiate Students
in NYC
Katrina O'Connor (Head of English)
On Thursday,
February 12, 2004, six of the
Collegiate's Sixth Form students made their way to New York with
two teachers, Mr &
Mrs O'Connor (Art and English respectively), on a
much-anticipated trip in support of their Advanced Level studies in Art &
Design and English Literature. This five-day excursion
presented the students with the opportunity to visit
world-renowned art galleries such as The Whitney Museum of
American Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, which
featured a fantastic exhibition of the work of artist Chuck
Close, and allowed students to see first-hand the work of
great artists such as Picasso, Van Gogh and Matisse.
Additionally, students took in the American Museum of
Natural History, and a number of performances, including a
modern production entitled Golda’s Balcony,
Broadway’s Little Shop of Horrors and The Blue
Man Group’s combination of music, theatre, art and
visual satire. Time was even found to experience
ice-skating in Central Park. The trip was a huge success,
with all who attended finding great inspiration for their
studies, and a solidification and continuation of the
knowledge attained in classes at the Collegiate. In the
words of one of the attending students, the journey to New
York allowed him to “see Art in a whole new way.”
